IWRM Action Plan Searcher

IWRM Action Plan Searcher (2021)

The IWRM Action Searcher is a database of priority actions for advancing IWRM as a means of achieving broader water-related objectives.

Primary Functions

  • Explore IWRM actions that contain investment opportunities that systematically guide the implementation of solutions to Integrated Water Resources Management challenges.

Detailed Description

The SDG 6 IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) Support Programme assists governments in designing and implementing country-led responses to SDG indicator 6.5.1, the degree of implementation of IWRM, as an entry point to accelerate progress towards the achievement of water-related SDGs and other development goals, in line with their national priorities. This is in direct support of the official SDG monitoring and reporting processes, and should lead to measurable progress on the relevant SDG targets.

Under the guidance of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and coordinated by Global Water Partnership (GWP) in collaboration with UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net, the Support Programme brings together a unique blend of partners in each country, representing governments, civil society, academia and the private sector, in the spirit of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.

Using the key challenges to IWRM implementation identified in the SDG 6.5.1 reporting process, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme aims to facilitate a government-led multi-stakeholder process to formulate and prioritise appropriate responses to those challenges. The result is typically an IWRM Action Plan (the name might be adapted for each country), which constitutes a series of attractive investment opportunities to systematically guide the implementation of solutions to IWRM challenges.
