The CEO Water Mandate launches the Water Resilience Coalition
This World Water Day, the UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate is proud to launch its Water Resilience Coalition. The Coalition is an industry-driven, CEO-led initiative elevating global water stress to the top of the corporate agenda and preserving the world’s freshwater resources through collective action in water-stressed basins and ambitious, quantifiable commitments.
Today, more than 25 per cent of the world’s population live in water-stressed regions. Over the next decade, the world is projected to experience more than 50 per cent shortfall in supply. The world’s water challenges are all greatly exacerbated by the climate crisis threatening not only our ecosystems, but our communities, our businesses, and the global economy.
Recognizing the need for urgent action, the Coalition is being spearheaded by a number of CEO Water Mandate endorsing companies – who have pledged to accomplish three overarching commitments by 2050:
- Net Positive Water Impact: Deliver measurable net positive impact in water-stressed basins. Net positive water impact means contributing more to basin health than what is taken from it.
- Water Resilient Value Chain: Develop, implement and enable water resilience practices across 100% of a company’s global value chain.
- Global Leadership: Raise the ambition of water resilience through public and corporate outreach, as well as inspire other industry leaders to join the Coalition.
The Coalition is excited to advance a water resilient future in partnership with a host of organizations, including Global Center for Adaptation, World Resources Institute, Water.org and The Nature Conservancy, among others. If your organization is potentially interested in getting involved, please let us know.
