Bayer Joins the Mandate’s Action Platform
The CEO Water Mandate Secretariat welcomes Bayer as the latest company to join the Water Security through Stewardship Action Platform!
The Action Platform is where all of the CEO Water Mandate’s key programmatic areas and working groups are housed. It is the core mechanism through which endorsing companies, UN entities, governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders work together to advance more sustainable water management and the SDGs.
Founded in 1863, Bayer is a Life Science company with core competencies in the areas of health care and agriculture. The company is headquartered in Germany and comprises 241 consolidated companies in 79 countries. The company employs 99,000+ people worldwide and had a revenue of 35.02 billion euros in 2017.
Bayer’s sustainability strategy focuses on responsible business practices that reduce business risks, and innovative strength that both opens up new business opportunities and enables the company to generate economic, ecological and social benefit. Bayer is committed to protecting water resources and using them efficiently and responsibly, using the water that the company needs “while also ensuring that industrial water usage does not lead to local problems such as water scarcity for the people living in the area Bayer supports.” Since using the WBCSD Global Water Tool to identify all Bayer sites located in regions threatened by water storage, the proportion of sites examined that have effective water management has increased from around 58% (2015) to 95% (2016). The company is committed to reducing wastewater pollution and working with key stakeholders to develop sustainable strategies for water usage.
Bayer endorsed the Mandate in January 2009, joining a diverse, global community of over 140 companies that have made a commitment to advancing water stewardship.
