PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Guidance for Setting Site-Level Water Targets Informed by Local Context

The aim of this guide is a to provide a practical approach for companies to set targets at the site-level that reflect the local context. This guide outlines a three-step process for setting water targets that address local water challenge(s) and contribute to meeting the desired end state of the basin. The three steps are 1) prioritize shared water challenges, 2) determine the desired end state and analyze the gap, and 3) set site-level water targets.

This draft guide is the result of a multi-stakeholder consultation process and has been informed by feedback from an expert advisory group, consultations during Stockholm World Water Week in 2017 and 2018, and on-going pilots.

If you are interested in providing feedback, please do so by:

    • Reviewing and providing specific and constructive written feedback in a separate document, referencing the section and page number, clearly articulating your perspective, and, when relevant, recommending an alternative for the authors to consider.
    • Assigning an overall score (from 1 to 5) based on the criteria below:
      1. Excellent; ready for publication
      2. Good; needs minor revision
      3. Good start; needs significant revision
      4. Significant conceptual and/or structural flaws
      5. Unacceptable
  • Suggest that each organization consider submitting one review even if there are multiple reviewers. If you’re a reviewer at the global level, it would be beneficial to have a local or site level person review the guide if possible. Since there’s likely to be many reviewers and corresponding comments, the authors will have the final say on edits and response to the comments.

You can read the draft guide here.
