Ecolab launches new online Smart Water Navigator to facilitate better water management
On March 14, Ecolab – a Mandate endorsing company since 2012 – launched its new Smart Water Navigator, for which I was honored to serve on the advisory board.
The Navigator is a completely free online tool that offers a roadmap for businesses to take a holistic approach to water management. It is supported by a practical guide to smart, sustainable water practices at the facility level the helps companies advance along a “Water Maturity Curve.” Using the Navigator, companies can advance from “untapped” to “linear” to “exploratory” to “water-smart.”
The Navigator asks companies to take an 13-question assessment that scores them along four key criteria:
- Site Management
- Water Management Practices
- Target Setting
- Water Stewardship
Companies may score very differently on these criteria. One company may have advanced water management practices, but lack senior leadership support. Another may have strong internal practices for governance and water management, although it hasn’t expanded these principles beyond its own four walls and developed a comprehensive water stewardship approach.
Based on a business’s own unique score, the Navigator offers tailored practical actions and case studies that can help ensure businesses eventually become “water smart.” In doing so, they not only save money by using less water, but manage the many water risks facing their business and set a solid, secure foundation for the business for years to come.
We at the CEO Water Mandate thank Ecolab for offering the opportunity to provide input into this valuable tool and encourage Mandate endorsers and companies of all sizes to make use of this great new free resource.
