Resources for Assessing Risks, Opportunities, and Impacts

Many available reports, frameworks, tools, and other resources can support meaningful and robust assessment and disclosure of water risks, opportunities and impacts. These resources cover a range of topics, including:

  • Disclosure—Initiatives such as CDP and GRI provide guidance for disclosing on water risks, opportunities and impacts. The CEO Water Mandate has worked closely with both CDP and GRI to align this document with those initiatives to the greatest extent possible.
  • Risk maps—Tools provided by organizations like WRI and WWF enable companies to map local water conditions near their facilities. This can lead to a better understanding of an organization’s exposure to water risks.
  • Opportunities—Groups like Business Link and EDF offer resources to help companies identify opportunities and technologies for water efficiency and cost savings.
  • Valuation—Valuation techniques can help companies quantify environmental risks, opportunities and impacts, including but not limited to those related to water. Reports from organizations like the Natural Capital Coalition and WBCSD outline current valuation techniques and provide examples of how they are being used in practice.
