The CEO Water Mandate Secretariat welcomes Hilton as the latest company to join the Water Security through Stewardship Action Platform!

The Action Platform is where all of the CEO Water Mandate’s key programmatic areas and working groups are housed. It is the core mechanism through which endorsing companies, UN entities, governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders work together to advance more sustainable water management and the SDGs.

Founded in 1919, Hilton is one of the largest hospitality companies in the world. With 14 different brands, the company is headquartered in the United States of America and has over 5,400 properties worldwide in 106 countries. The company created 23,000 new hotel jobs in 2017 and had a revenue of nearly 10 billion dollars.

Hilton is committed to water stewardship across their value chain. The company has reduced water consumption by 20% since 2008 and 2,700 of its hotels are using low temperature laundry technologies that can deliver 40% water reduction and 50-75% energy savings with every wash. Hilton collects and tracks water use across its 5,400+ hotels with its Corporate Responsibility performance measurement platform, LightStay. In partnership with World Wildlife Fund, Hilton is updating LightStay to provide hotels with even more locally focused information.

By 2030, the company’s goal is to “cut our environmental footprint in half through responsible hospitality across our value chain.” To accomplish this goal, the company has released their 2030 Value Chain Targets, amongst which are the commitments to reduce water use in managed operations by 50% and activate 20 context-based water projects in their communities and watersheds of top water risk.

Hilton endorsed the Mandate in March 2017, joining a diverse, global community of over 140 companies that have made a commitment to advancing water stewardship.
