SUMMARY:Water Security Through Nature Based Solutions - From Theory to Practice
DESCRIPTION:Date: 26 August 2024 \nTime: 9:00AM-10:30AM CET \nLocation: In- Person at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre (A2\, Level 6) & Online \n\n\n\n\nSummary: \nThis interactive panel will showcase global place-based initiatives supporting water security through nature-based solutions. It will emphasize the vital role of these solutions in addressing water-related climate risks\, crucial for ecosystem and human security. The discussion will illustrate successful cooperation among stakeholders and across geographical boundaries.  \nDescription: \nNature-based solutions (NBS) in both urban and rural contexts are key to ecosystem and human security. NBS can ensure sufficient water supply\, water treatment\, and reduce risks associated with extreme weather events that threaten human security. This session will spotlight global examples of NBS implementation that support water security\, including in the Canadian Prairies\, the United States\, Latin America\, and Africa. Weaving together themes of water security\, regional cooperation\, and NBS\, panelists will speak to the place-based realities of implementing NBS in water insecure contexts and highlight the broader implications for human safety. The aim is to grasp how cooperation among stakeholders and across geographies is achieved in NBS projects\, and to explore institutional requirements for promoting NBS\, especially in underserved communities. Additionally\, it will discuss the business case for NBS\, advocating for collaboration among the private sector\, public entities\, and NGOs. For example\, the IISD-led Natural Infrastructure for Water Solutions Initiative aims to break down silos between stakeholder groups and integrate natural infrastructure into decision-making processes\, benefiting underserved communities in the Canadian Prairies. Similarly\, an NBS project in the Kafue Flats\, Zambia\, engages NGOs\, academia\, and investors to implement NBS to support climate adaptation\, through flood and drought prevention.  \nRegistration (Registration available on 8/5 for specific in-person & online sessions) \nHow you can join online: \n\nRegister for online access (FREE)\nYou will receive an email with a link to the digital platform\nGo to the programme and search for this session\nClick on the session card and press the “join meeting” button when the session is starting.\n\nThe join meeting button will be available 10 minutes prior to the meeting\, if you dont see the button\, re-open the session.

SUMMARY:Perceived and Experienced Barriers to Corporate Engagement in Collective Actions
DESCRIPTION:Date: 25 August 2024 \nTime: 16:00 – 17:30 CET \nLocation: Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre\, Room 26 Level 2 \nSummary:  \nThis workshop explores barriers to expanding corporate involvement in collective actions. Corporates and their partners will candidly share lessons learned from initiatives like the pioneering Women + Water Collaborative in India. Audience will participate in unpacking the opportunities and conditions for collective actions to contribute to basin-wide resilience goal. \nDescription:  \nThe workshop will be run Roundtable-style\, alternating between presentations\, panel discussions\, and open reflections from the audience. There will be two clear “units” covered: 1. Creating conditions for collective action\, and 2. Scaling collective actions for basin-wide resilience. \nUnit 1 introduces the principles\, characteristics\, and enabling conditions of collective action. It features a case study of the Women + Water Collaborative in India\, highlighting lessons from the first collective action program aimed at improving clean water access. This initiative illustrates the first time companies from various sectors\, including textiles and pharmaceuticals\, have united to address a regional water crisis. An interactive panel with corporate members\, moderated by WaterAid\, will discuss the challenges of collective action. A roundtable will explore why companies hesitate to finance such efforts\, addressing perceived and real obstacles. \nUnit 2 examines the limitations of collective action in achieving basin-wide resilience and introduces a framework for scaling efforts to meet common targets. A panel of corporate leaders will discuss their experiences piloting this framework and integrating it into their water strategies. A roundtable will consider the alignment of stewardship ambitions with major basin coordination mechanisms\, identifying new barriers and potential values for companies. \nRegistration

SUMMARY:Building Corporate Water Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Date: 28 May 2024 \nTime: 14:00-15:00 CET \nAudience: Swiss Companies \n\n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\nIn this webinar\, we will address how businesses can identify\, measure\, and address their impacts and dependencies on water by drawing on insights and resources from the CEO Water Mandate and the UN Global Compact (UNGC) Forward Faster initiative. We will share practical strategies of leading practice and how companies are working together through collective action to address water security and improve water resilience. \nIn the face of climate change\, water security emerges as a critical concern\, fundamentally altering the way we look at water systems\, and how we govern and manage these systems effectively. Businesses of all types rely on water\, using it as a critical resource in their production processes and throughout their supply chains. Despite substantial investments in water solutions\, current progress remains insufficient\, with water challenges posing significant risks to business continuity\, ecosystems\, and affected communities. As a result\, the private sector has a significant role to play in improving water resilience\, and achieving net positive water impact in the most water-stressed basins\, through corporate water stewardship and collective action. \nWe invite Swiss and Liechtenstein companies to join these global efforts in building water resilience. Participants will be equipped with knowledge and tools to set goals and take action on the road to net-positive water impact. \n\nTo request an invite\, please email: smorales@pacinst.org
